How to Perform Wudu or Wuzu in Islam Step by Step guide

In Islam, Wudu (also spelled as Wuzu or Wuḍūʾ) refers to the ritual ablution or purification that Muslims perform before certain acts of worship, such as offering prayers (Salah) or touching and reciting the Quran. It is an essential and recommended practice for Muslims to maintain cleanliness and spiritual purity.

Wudu involves specific actions and sequences, including the following steps:

  1. Intention (Niyyah): Begin with the intention to perform Wudu for the purpose of worship and seeking closeness to Allah.
  2. Saying Bismillah: Begin by saying “Bismillah” (In the name of Allah).
  3. Washing hands: Start by washing the hands up to the wrists three times.
  4. Rinsing the mouth: Take a small amount of water and rinse the mouth three times, ensuring the water reaches all parts of the mouth.
  5. Cleaning the nose: Using the right hand, sniff water into the nostrils and then blow it out with the left hand, three times.
  6. Washing the face: Wash the entire face, from the hairline to the chin and from ear to ear, three times.
  7. Washing the arms: Start with the right arm, washing it up to the elbow three times, and then repeat the same for the left arm.
  8. Wiping the head: Wet the palms and pass them over the head, starting from the forehead to the back of the head, and then back to the forehead.
  9. Wiping the ears: Using the index fingers, wipe the inner and outer parts of the ears with wet fingers.
  10. Washing the feet: Begin with the right foot, washing it up to the ankle three times, and then repeat the same for the left foot.

It is important to note that these steps should be performed in the specified order, and each step should be done thoroughly. After completing Wudu, a Muslim is considered in a state of ritual purity and is ready to engage in acts of worship.

Wudu is not only a physical act of cleanliness but also a spiritual one, symbolizing the purification of the heart and mind before approaching Allah. It is encouraged for Muslims to maintain Wudu throughout the day, as it is considered a means of attaining blessings and spiritual tranquility.
